In a Tuesday press briefing, an official of Convergys said that the new call centers will represent a 77 percent increase in the company’s operations.
Three of the new sites will be located in Metro Manila—the UP Science Park in Quezon City, Glorietta 5 in Makati, and San Lazaro in Manila. The other two sites will be in Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Cebu City,
Andrea Ayers, Convergys President for customer management, failed to disclose the amount of investment for the expansion.
Once completed, Convergys said it will have a total of nine call centers in Metro Manila, three in Cebu City, and one each in Bacolod and Laguna. The expected hiring of 7,000 workers will bring the company’s total employment to about 20,000.
This figure represents the biggest workforce employed by the company outside the United States, Convergys Philippines Country Manager Marife Zamora said, adding that its Indian operations employ only about 12,000 employees.
These five new facilities will house a total of 3,995 “call center seats,” which refers to a computer station that is shared by two to three agents.
The new call centers will provide both general support and advanced technical help desk services to a variety of Convergys clients via traditional voice calling, email, and Web chat, as well as “back-office” applications and document processing.
Both Ayers and Zamora said most of the company’s overall growth came from the Philippines and that existing and prospective customers have requested that they be served by the Philippine sites. – GMANews.TV
